What’s That Loud Noise in the Xerox WorkCentre 6400?

We received this unique and interesting feedback recently:

Despite UPS sending the Xerox WorkCentre 6400 to us upside down, the manufacturers packaged the device well. However, the fact that it came upside down seemed odd because they sent it on a pallet. When we removed the packaging, we plugged it in and hoped the UPS driver did not hurt the copier from bad shipping practices. After plugging it in, everything seemed okay but for one exception. It sounded extraordinarily loud.

With our expertise, we thought it sounded as if the fan were working too hard. One of us went around to the back of the machine and discovered the noise coming from the air filter in the back left corner. When he grabbed the filter, the sound vanished.

We thought, maybe the problem lies with this machine because it saw the world from an eccentric angle during the shipment process. However, when we unpackaged another Xerox WorkCentre 6400, we discovered the same loud noise. What did we do? We taped the filter so that it could not move. Do we think that the best solution? Maybe not, but we fixed the problem. Beyond the noise problems with the Xerox WorkCentre 6400, we have been happy with this unit.

While we appreciate this customer’s resilience, we recommend you contact us any time there is a problem.  Even if it’s an odd sounding rattle.
